Partner short name: HUG
The SERVICIO MADRILEÑO DE SALUD (SERMAS) is the structure that integrates all the 31 public hospitals and every public health service of the Madrid Regional Health System. SERMAS is the project coordinator, and delegates’ authority to Hospital’s General Director to manage research projects. The “Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital de Getafe” is the third party linked to Hospital Universitario de Getafe in order to manage the administrative tasks of the Hospital in regard with research activities, as well as carrying out certain research activities.
Since the launching of the Hospital, aging and diabetes have been two of the official research programs, as approved by the Local Research Committee. Because of that, several research groups at the Hospital have been engaged in research activities related to these two fields. Among the several outputs from this initiative, a Clinical Research Unit specifically designed for older people has been developed, and a member of the Hospital Universitario de Getafe (Dr. Rodriguez Mañas, Head of the Service of Geriatrics) is leading national research initiatives on aging and diabetes and also is the project leader of three FP7 projects and 1 DG SANCO funded project; all of them focused on frailty.
The University Hospital of Getafe representing the Regional Government of Madrid has been awarded with three stars as one of the European Reference Sites on active and healthy ageing, and is an active member of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, participating in all its action groups.
